Wavy Wonders' Commitment to Shrinking the Carbon Footprint of Seaweed Snacks

SuFu Product Climate Footprint of Wavy Wonders Sea Salt Snack

Wavy Wonders, a Danish-based company that produces seaweed snacks, recently took a proactive approach to measure and reduce their carbon footprint. As more and more consumers become conscious of the environmental impact of the products they consume, Wavy Wonders recognized the importance of environmental sustainability and wanted to gain insight into their emissions to reduce their impact on the environment while providing transparent information to their customers.

The company approached SuFu, to assist them with their sustainability efforts. Together, they choose the Product Climate Footprint service to calculate the emissions of each product, as well as create graphics summarizing the climate footprint and an emission map breaking down emissions per production stage.

During the assessment, it became clear that some of the smaller stages in the supply chain had limited activity data available, which meant that it was challenging to accurately account for emissions. However, SuFu developed specific assumptions and models to estimate emissions for these stages, providing Wavy Wonders with comprehensive insight into their product's carbon footprint.

The study revealed that seaweed transport and processing - particularly drying - were the emission hotspots, contributing more emissions than expected. Surprisingly, there was little difference in the climate footprint of the three products. Armed with this information, Wavy Wonders can now work towards reducing its emissions and potentially eliminating all unavoidable emissions.

By partnering with SuFu, Wavy Wonders has been able to provide transparent information to its customers about their product's environmental impact. With a greater understanding of their carbon footprint, they can take further steps to reduce their environmental impact. SuFu has developed emission reduction strategies that are specific to Wavy Wonders' supply chain, enabling the company to take targeted action to reduce emissions in their high-impact areas. The results of this study can be used as a benchmark for the company to set targets and continuously improve its climate efforts.
